New Appointment at The Sixth Form
We welcomed our newest appointment – soon-to-be-Dr Katarzyna Kosior. After completing her viva next week and (we hope) gaining her doctorate in History, Katarzyna will be spearheading the OxNet initiative, whereby Southmoor will become the North East hub for Oxford University’s new outreach program.
Young Physicist Makes His Mark
Congratulations to James Maynard of Year 12 who was nominated as Southmoor Academy’s ‘Physicist of the Year’. James attended Durham University where he was presented with this prestigious award along with students nominated from other schools in the area. Stargazing Students
Students recently had the chance to visit the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre to learn about important research into astro physics and cosmology. The visit included a tour of the facility (operated by the University of Manchester) which included the impressive Lovell Telescope which is the third largest steerable radio telescope in the world!
