The Admission Process


Sixth Form Open Evening

Applications start after our Open Evening  in early November.

Apply to The Sixth Form 

Applications should be received by Friday 9th December 2022 will be processed in January 2023.

Interview Stage 

Candidates will be invited to an interview in February  to discuss course choices and future plans.

Final Applications

Applications made after Friday 9th December will be processed in March 2023.

A-Level Entry Requirements

To study A levels at the Sixth Form – it is recommended that you have a minimum of 5 GCSEs including 3 at Grade 5 and 2 at Grade 4 or better including English Language or Literature and Mathematics.

If this is not the case, a range of Grade 5s or better in other subjects will be considered and there will be an opportunity to resit GCSE English and/or Maths.

Please see guidance in the following course sections for our desired entry requirements – we recommend you work hard to achieve these grades, as they will give you the best possible chance of success at A level.

The entry requirements for BTEC/Applied and Technical courses at the Sixth Form Southmoor may differ – please see the specific entry requirements for individual courses in the relevant course section that follows. 

Applied/Technical and BTEC – all our technical/vocational subjects are of equivalent value to A level courses.

Progress in Year 12
All students will be expected to take an external exam at the end of Year 12. The pastoral team and subject teachers will monitor the progress of each Sixth Former. Students are given a learning agreement and we will meet with students where we have concerns over effort, deadlines, independent study or other issues to discuss a suitable progression route
