Year 13 Artists Look for Inspiration

Year 13 Fine Artists and Photographers recently visited the National Glass Centre and Centre for Contemporary Art at St Peter’s, to explore the current art and photography exhibitions on show. Students took part in a gallery walk-through with Learning and Engagement Manager, Lucy Lax, who helped to further explore their understanding of the work on display. As pupils are currently developing their exam component of the course, the visit provided contextual sources, inspiration and wider participation in the arts, to support their studies.

They were able to handle items, take photographs, sketch ideas and learn about the featured artists, as well as their practice. The trip culminated in a hot glass demonstration and a chance to see the newly unveiled ‘Molly’ statue, the latest addition to the riverside sculpture trail, in recognition of the women shipyard workers and their contribution to the war effort. Students engaged well with the opportunity to see local and national artworks, and some have already begun to incorporate new ideas into their personal projects, inspired by the creative experience.
