SMSC Theme of the Week

Last week’s SMSC Theme of the Week is Remembrance. This is a very important event in not only our school calendar but also for the whole Nation, in addition to this year celebrating 100 years of the Royal British Legion. In assemblies, Mr Wareham talked to students about “Why do we Remember?”. In a special video, thanks to the Performing Arts department, students and staff gave reasons as to why Remembrance is important, and students also listened to three stories of those who gave their lives to protect our freedoms. This includes a former Southmoor student Sgt John Amer, who died in November 2009 because of an explosion in Helmand Province. At 11am on Thursday 11 November, the school community joined the nation in 2 minutes silence followed by the playing of the Last Post.
