Following our assembly on Thursday morning, Tom from Durham Wildlife Trust, ran a focus group session with students to introduce them to the range of wildlife in our area and begin mind mapping some ideas of how our students could volunteer with the wildlife trust projects in Hendon and Backhouse Park. Students came up with some excellent ideas from building bug hotels to learning how to grow vegetables in our own planter in Barley Mow park. Together, this group of students will learn a variety of skills from Tom over week by week sessions which will hopefully equip them to run their own projects in school, across our green spaces. Tom will be back in February to run a workshop on planting seedlings for a harvest of vegetables in the summer months!
