Last Friday 40 students from year 12 and 13 embarked on a practice expedition for their silver Duke of Edinburgh award. This was our biggest DofE Awars cohort yet, with students starting in Marrick and successfully navigating the 17-kilometre walk through the Yorkshire dales and, despite a soggy start, managed to avoid most of the rain!
While walking round the countryside staff taught students the basics of map reading and navigation. Once back at camp the students learnt how to assemble tents and how to cook their own meal on a camping stove.
All 40 students did a fantastic job, seeing a range of wild animals on the way; from newly born lambs and highland cows. We are looking forward to the final qualifying expedition in June already!
