Students from Southmoor and St Robert’s attended a workshop run by the Orwell Youth Prize. The day-long session was based around George Orwell’s values of integrity, truthfulness and fairness and increased their interests in current affairs and social issues.

Year 12 historians attended the first of two sessions at Durham University’s History Department where they were introduced to life at Durham through a short lecture before working with undergraduates. They looked at primary source material including the first known narrative of Robin Hood!

We saw the 2018 launch of the OxNet initiative which now has six schools involved across the North-East. Students were invited to St Peter’s Church in Sunderland to learn more about its connections with Bede, a medieval chronicler. They took part in academic taster sessions in History and Physics as part of the ‘Ordered Universe’ research project …

Ninety Year 11 students from our sister school, Sandhill View Academy, joined us to take part in taster lessons and presentations to learn more about Sixth Form.

Seven Year 12 students spent a week at Nissan working on a Formula 1 project where they designed miniature F1 racing cars learning how to use brand new programming software and applying engineering theories to their designs.
