Back in May, when the new Southmoor House building was opened we launched our art and photography competition to get the walls in this new building beaming with colour and creativity. We had so many wonderful entries under the theme “Aspiration: From Sunderland to the World”, and choosing the winners was almost an impossible task! Well done to all entries – your artwork will look fantastic on the walls! There can only be one winner however and this was Zunairah Ahmed from Year 9 at Southmoor with her grand sketch showing ships from Sunderlands ports leaving our shores and sailing across the world! In Zunairah’s explanation of her piece she wrote: “Ships are an integral part of Sunderland’s history … even a small city can produce something massive that can help the world”. An inspiring and hugely talented piece that we are certain will go on to inspire many other students to make a massive difference across the world with their own talents and character. Well done Zunairah!
Runners up were Will Taylor in Year 10 and Daisy Johnston in Year 12 for their fantastic artwork. These students will receive their prizes on their return to school in September when all artwork will be framed and placed on the walls in Southmoor House for all to see. Thank you for all entries – the work we received was of such a high standard!
