Year 12 Duke of Edinburgh students embarked on their practice expedition today, walking a 14km circular route near Reith, North Yorkshire. All the while, the groups must carry their belongings in rucksacks and navigate their own way between checkpoints.
Once at camp the students will assemble their tents and cook meals on camp stoves before sleeping under the stars (in what is meant to be pretty cold conditions!) This is all a practice for their final qualifying expedition in June, when they will cover three times the distance over three days.
Students have taken to the challenge excellently, working as a team to navigate some of the more challenging parts of the journey and encouraging one another to the finish. Helped by some clear and sunny conditions, all teams have done extremely well and are already looking forward to the summer expedition!
