We were delighted to welcome inspirational and motivational speaker Richard McCann into school to speak to Year 9, 10 and Sixth Form students. Richard talked about his challenging background. Richard lost his mother to the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, in 1975 and he was raised in poverty by his often drunk and violent father. He left school with no qualifications and stumbled from one mistake to another even spending some time in prison. Richard talked to the students about adopting an ‘iCan’ attitude and that with such a growth mindset anyone can discover their true potential in life. The talks were truly inspirational and contained a very important message for students, particularly after the challenges of the last 18 months.
