In March, the History Department took a group of 31 sixth form pupils to Krakow, Poland. The trip was planned to help pupils A-level Historians embed and experience their knowledge and understanding of the complex features of World War Two and how the Nazis carried out and implemented both occupation of Eastern European countries and the final solution. Pupils were able to discover the beautiful city of Krakow and had guided tours of areas of significance for Jewish residents of the city during the conflict. They visited the Jewish Quarter, the Galicia Jewish Museum, Auschwitz and Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Wieliczka Salt Mine as well as experiencing the city and the culture. It was an amazing and emotional experience for both staff and pupils, who were once again outstanding ambassadors of Southmoor.
