Continuing with the theme of ‘aspiration’ we have recently heard back from sixth form alumni, Beth Cutting, who left us three years ago. Beth has now gone on to graduate from university and is exploring some truly unique opportunities. Beth describes her journey below:
‘I spent three months in America last summer working as a genetics intern at a crime lab at Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (Reno). I was working on validating a new study to help process sexual assault kits faster. I was then lucky enough to present this work at a UCL conference in January. Since last summer I have been researching potential genetic pathways involved in ageing (in yeast) for my dissertation. I finally received my results and have graduated from UCL with a 2:1 (hons) in Genetics! After much consideration I have decided to further my study and I am off to Newcastle Uni to do a master’s in medical genetics next year! I am hoping to enter the pharmaceutical industry next year. I am not sure what job position I want, but I would really like to stay in the genetics field.’
Wow! Well done Beth and we wish you all the luck in a bright career ahead of you!
